Foundation Focus is a non-profit organization established to inform and make a contribution towards the development of the people of the Netherlands Antilles in general, and the citizens of the Windward Islands in particular.
The fiction of the law presumes that everybody is supposed to know the law. This is one of the reasons why we, the Board of Foundation Focus, embarked on the production of a weekly thirty minutes television program named "The Law in Focus", through which basic issues pertaining to the laws and legal system of the Netherlands Antilles are presented to the public. The first program was aired on January 8th, 2004.
Legal consciousness of a people is an integral aspect of a democracy and an informed people is a prepared people!
The general format of the programs in 2004 and 2005 provided for a summary at the end of a program or series of programs, as well as a trivia and the answer to the trivia. These summaries, trivias and answers are herein compiled for continued reference and study by those who are governed by our laws.
It is our hope that this booklet will contribute to greater awareness of the laws of the Netherlands Antilles by all citizens, and by extension contribute to law and order in the country. We encourage in particular the schools to make good use of the information, which is presented in a concise and accessible manner. The layout provides possibilities to be used for party games, quizzes and other creative uses to encourage knowledge about the law.
