The Law in Focus February 18th, 2010
Since general suffrage within the Netherlands Antilles became law just some sixty plus years ago, it is interesting to learn more about the activities surrounding the elections in those days, and take note of how political activities have evolved over the years, as we prepare for yet another Constitutional change within the Kingdom.
With just a few politicians still among us, who were on the scene since general suffrage within the Netherlands Antilles, giving voting rights to the general public in 1948, it is our privilege to bring the viewers and listeners of The Law in Focus as of Thursday February 18, 2010 conversations held with one whose name is well known throughout the Kingdom, Captain Leo Chance.
Mr. Chance actively represented each island of the Netherlands Antilles, except Bonaire, not only as a candidate, but as a Parliamentarian, a Minister and Prime Minister he represented the entire Netherlands Antilles for many years.
After a political career of more than four decades he is no longer involved on the political scene as an electable politician. Captain Leo Chance is one of the few politicians who were around in 1954 when the Charter of the Dutch Kingdom became a reality.
