The Law in Focus Special to be aired on July 22, 2010
Constitutional re-arrangements within the Dutch Kingdom, and other parts of the world, is nothing new. With a unanimous vote for the ‘Constitution’ of the soon to be country Sint Maarten, and elections to elect the Members of the first Parliament slatedto be held on September 17, 2010, a brief trip through history is worthwhile to access where we are today, how we reached here, and what we should look for come 10-10-10.
In its program of Thursday July 22, 2010, after a review of administrative relations within the Dutch Kingdom since the beginning of the 19th Century, followed by the Charter of 1954 and beyond, The Law in Focus will recall what some prominent persons in our society had to say about constitutional change since the referendum of June 23, 2000 on St. Maarten.
Notwithstanding the many shifts of dates for St. Maarten to obtain its new status, there is no turning back at this point. Come 10-10-10 the Netherlands Antilles will be officially dismantled, while on September 17, 2010 the last I.C. elections will be held in preparation of the new status. All are invited to view this special edition aired right after the historical unanimous vote by the Island Council for our Constitution, to recall the islands journey through history.
