The Law in Focus will be "Turning Pages of History" on its upcoming programs
Philipsburg, June 23, 2008
Thursday upcoming June 26, The Law in Focus is starting a series of programs entitled "Turning pages of History" as a prelude to the commemoration of Abolition of Slavery, which is celebrated in the Dutch Caribbean on July 1. This series will culminate on August 28th, 2008 as the world will yet turn another important page in history with the formal nomination of Senator Barak Obama by the Democratic Party in the USA, as the first Black Presidential candidate in the race for what is considered by many the most powerful position in the Western hemisphere, or even as others put it, the most powerful position in the world.
We encourage young and old to join us in this series; take notes, discuss and follow up with research of your own on the material that will be presented. This would be a worthwhile vacation project for youngsters at home or for the various organizations in their planning of activities.
The Netherlands Antilles are on a crossroad; who we are, what we are, where we are and what to be are questions to answers defined by history. Prof. John Hendrik Clarke defines the African Centered and Multicultural interpretation of history as a clock that people use to tell their time of day and a compass that people use to locate themselves on the map of human geography, but most important according to Prof. Clarke, history tells where you still must go and what you still must be!
